VirtuCache Caching to RAM and VMware Service Provider Pricing

VMware’s pricing for ESXi and related software components for Service Providers is on a pay-as-you-go basis, based on host RAM consumed by all the VMs on the Service Provider’s ESXi hosts.

When VirtuCache is configured to cache to host RAM, it doesn’t affect the Service Provider’s VMware related cost. This is because if some amount of host memory is used as cache media in VirtuCache, then VirtuCache carves out that amount of memory from RAM assigned to VMware and uses it exclusively. VirtuCache doesn’t share it back with VMs or VMware host and hence VMware’s Service Provider pricing doesn’t apply to memory assigned to VirtuCache, simply because VMware is unaware of RAM used by VirtuCache.
