New VirtuCache GUI Feature to Sort Virtual Machines by Storage Performance Metrics
Palo Alto, CA, USA. August 24 2023.
We have released a new GUI for VirtuCache, available for no additional charge, to VirtuCache customers who are current on their support contracts with us.
This GUI has a new tab called ‘Top’ under the top level tab called ‘Performance’ that lets you sort all your VMs (that are accelerated by VirtuCache) by any of the below listed parameters. It also lets you display these same parameters at the VM level.
Subtab called ‘Top’ under the ‘Performance’ Tab in New VirtuCache GUI
The below parameters are for storage stats at the VM level, and the most important stats to monitor.
VM Read Latency (in milliseconds)
VM Write Latency (in milliseconds)
VM Read IOPS
VM Write IOPS
VM Read Throughput (MBPS)
VM Write Throughput (MBPS)
The below parameters are for storage stats for VirtuCache cache media, to see if the cache media is working as expected.
Cache Read Latency (in milliseconds)
Cache Write Latency (in milliseconds)
Cache Read IOPS
Cache Write IOPS
Cache Read Throughput (MBPS)
Cache Write Throughput (MBPS)
Cache Hit Percentage – This is the percentage of reads serviced by VirtuCache cache media
Dirty Footprint (Bytes) – This is the write cache footprint not yet synced to backend storage array
Total Footprint (Bytes) – This is the total read and dirty write cache footprint
The below parameters are for storage stats for the SAN storage array. Note that the SAN storage array doesn’t affect storage performance anymore since VirtuCache completely masks SAN performance. Also, the SAN storage array is considerably less burdened than before because of two reasons – (1) Most reads are now served by VirtuCache cache; (2) VirtuCache coalesces write IOs, as a result less write IOPS get sent to the backend array when the write cache is flushed.
SAN Read Latency (in milliseconds)
SAN Write Latency (in milliseconds)
SAN Read IOPS
SAN Write IOPS
SAN Read Throughput (MBPS)
SAN Write Throughput (MBPS)
The below parameters are for storage stats for the VMware network used for VirtuCache write replication (write cache mirroring). These numbers become important if you are using our ‘Write-Back’ caching policy that mirrors writes.
Network Read Latency (in milliseconds)
Network Write Latency (in milliseconds)
Network Read IOPS
Network Write IOPS
Network Read Throughput (MBPS)
Network Write Throughput (MBPS)
